About ycArts I’ve an affinity for colour. And laughter. Also a profound connection with the varied realities of life. Working in acrylic & mixed media, I create whimsical views of life in brilliant shades, capturing empathetic subtleties of emotion brilliantly with a significant dose of frivolous eccentricity.
Eight years ago I left “big city” Montreal for rural Ontario. The pace & mindset of my country neighbours are wildly stimulating, as is the daily interaction with nature. My current work is dedicated to joy.
ycArts’ flamboyant works are in corporate & private collections in Europe, North & Latin America.

Statement I used to say I have to paint: I’d get downright grumpy if kept from it for too long. Now I spend more time thinking, figuring out my motivation. Okay, over-intellectualizing. But I enjoy my output of the last few years.
The works of Max Beckmann, Xenia Hausner, Édouard Manet and Alice Neel affect me viscerally, while the abstract works of Sol Lewitt & Joan Mitchell “talk” to me through colour & form. I want to have their effect on audiences, using forceful lines (or outlines) and committed colour statements.
There is often a psychological undercurrent or edginess, hinting at a story (or several) beyond the canvas. The narrative shifts with each viewing, making the works endlessly alive, available for yet another interpretation, another story. These shifts contribute to the Aha! factor & the pleasure of (re)viewing.
